Para evitar que la inteligencia artificial reproduzca desigualdades en su aplicación a la sostenibilidad, es esencial diseñarla de forma ética y centrada en el ser humano, incorporando la participación de comunidades diversas y realizando evaluaciones de impacto social. Se deben utilizar datos representativos y libres de sesgos, desarrollar algoritmos justos y explicables, y garantizar el acceso equitativo a las tecnologías sostenibles. Además, es crucial contar con regulación responsable, auditorías independientes y una perspectiva interseccional que asegure que los beneficios de la IA se distribuyan de manera justa y contribuyan al bienestar de todos, especialmente de los grupos más vulnerables.

Connecting this with industry, innovation and infrastructure adds a further nuance that may add important value to developing societies such as South Africa (MvH - South Africa)

There is so much poverty in South Africa, which has such complex multi-layered consequences besides the lived reality of it. It also affects the mindsets of people, their hope, their agency and their ability to wish/hope for/work towards a better future - indeed - a good question. (MvH - South Africa)

This defense of human dignity is touching! Your ethical approach is a reference for social transformation. What practical mechanisms do you propose to institutionalize empathy in organizations?

Thank you. This is indeed a good question. I think that organizations should be pro-active in creating spaces for meaningful interactions with the Other. It may be a good idea to create spaces where people can co-create something, i.e. brainstorm a new idea, design something new, create an art work that represents something, etc. We should also not underestimate the value of playful creations ...i.e. creating a drama, or a dance, or a recipe. This may be lighthearted and fun, but it is non-threatening and orchestrates interaction, learning from each other, negotiations of ideas, problem solving together, and it provides a platform for people to have their ideas recognized in the presence of the Other - which is important in the context of experiences of dignity. I also think that it may be a good idea to facilitate workshops that focuses on introspection, perhaps my 7 steps towards awareness may be useful starting point.

1.Thank you so much for this insightful overview of some of the challenges in India. In South Africa we also have a digital divide. I like the idea of designing ethical guidelines for ethical use of AI. Currently, our students are so dependent on AI, sometimes, to the extent that their belief in their own ability to complete a task, is severely lacking. Thus, I am wondering how an over-reliance on AI might ultimately impact people's belief in themselves to indeed create their own ideas and add value to society - sometime in the near future.
