Abstract

The southern region of Brazil is experiencing a climate catastrophe caused by floods, which have affected many schools, leading to the interruption of in-person classes in several municipalities. Due to this interruption, the importance of reevaluating pedagogical practices for returning to school in Basic Education grows, especially in the public sphere, aiming at a humanized education. This article seeks to reflect on the contributions of the Global Educational Pact and the Encyclical Laudato Si to the development of a new educational paradigm after the climate catastrophe of the floods, upon returning to school in Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil. The study carried out is qualitative in nature, developed through documentary and bibliographic consultations. The relevance of seeking new educational paradigms based on a humanizing approach aimed at preserving life and ecosystems, willing to solve complex problems and responding to contemporary innovations, is evident. It is concluded that the Global Educational Pact and the Encyclical Laudato Si are powerful documents that can contribute to the promotion of ideas for a more humanized education, aimed at new generations and the preservation of life in our Common Home.
