This article investigates the ontological presuppositions of those divine names that can be said of God and creatures. At first, the metaphysical anteriority of the entity is highlighted as an attribute of God. Then, discovering that the entity is an analogous concept, the different modalities of analogy are examined by confronting two texts: Summa contra Gentiles, I, ch. 34 and De Veritate, q.2, a.11. Finally, it is shown that the analogy of proportionality is the one that should be preferred for predicating something about God, and it is revealed to what extent it is based on the fourth way «ex gradibus qui in rebus inveniuntur».
