Abstract

The article examines St. Thomas Aquinas' view of interpersonal contemplation, highlighting its integration into philosophy and theology. It begins with the concept of the ultimate end, arguing that contemplation is essential to attain true happiness and the ultimate purpose of life. He distinguishes between intellectual contemplation, which focuses on divine truths, and loving contemplation, which seeks an affective relationship with the divine. He also explores the four phases of loving friendship and how they contribute to a deeper contemplative experience. In addition, he discusses the different degrees of contemplation, from communion and fellowship to personal identity, and differentiates between supernatural and natural contemplation, highlighting the role of divine grace. It concludes with an analysis of conjugal contemplation, showing how it reflects and deepens love in personal relationships.
