The lasallian model of university ministry: a review of the literature from the colombian context

Abstract

A university pastoral model can be understood as a structured and theologically grounded approach that guides pastoral activities in higher education institutions. Its aim is to promote the spiritual, ethical, and moral development of students, aligning them with Catholic values and the educational mission of the Church. This article aims to conduct a literature review of current university pastoral plans in Colombia to analyze the theological foundations of university pastoral plans in force in Colombia during the 2022-2023 period, with a focus on the Lasallian university pastoral model. To comprehend this model, an exhaustive search for university pastoral plans and models was conducted in academic databases and official websites of Catholic universities in Colombia and Lasallian universities in Latin America. The goal was to identify and analyze the strategies and approaches implemented in current university pastoral work. The literature review also included identifying theological references used in these models, analyzing the theological and ecclesiological foundations that support pastoral actions in the university context. Relationships between the mission horizon of higher education institutions and university pastoral activities were explored, highlighting their contribution to the educational and pastoral mission. This analysis also sought to understand the theological and ecclesiological significance of these models, assessing their alignment with the Catholic identity of the institutions and their reflection of the Church's vision in the university context. As a result, specific components of a Lasallian university pastoral model were defined, enriching the understanding of this approach in the Colombian context and within the University of La Salle.
