This article is part of the results found in the research "Didactics for understanding in physical education: between constructivist theories, binary scenarios and students who build knowledge" linked to the Doctorate program in educational sciences, Universidad del Magdalena, RudeColombia Objective: The purpose of this study is to interpret and characterize the life stories of physical education teachers in order to understand their impact on the teaching and learning processes at school. Method: The research was developed through a qualitative approach with an educational ethnographic methodological design. Regarding the techniques for data collection, semi-structured interviews and an analysis of their professional titles were carried out. Results: It was found that the motivation of physical education teachers to be professionals in the area stems from their association with competitive and school sports practice. However, some enter the race as a second life option or by chance. Discussion and Conclusions: There is a relationship between sports experience and teacher training that directly affect the teaching strategies used by teachers during their physical education classes in elementary school.
