Abstract

This article explains the importance of the incorporation of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in order for students to develop skills to build meaningful, authentic, and integral knowledge in the teaching-learning process at the same time that they validate their emotions and learn how to manage them. Different authors agree that one of the main goals of SEL is to provide students with the necessary tools so that they can face the challenges of today's world without neglecting the interest of building healthy relationships. A thematic analysis was carried out with the most relevant components of the SEL such as its definition, the skills developed, and activities for children, adolescents, and adults. The research results indicate that our students, anywhere in the world, face different realities that can strengthen or weaken their learning; economic, family or personal, cultural, emotional or health problems are brought to the classrooms, and as teachers we must offer our students the education they need and deserve, developing their academic and soft skills in the same educational environment.
