Background: The development of practical skills and the appropriation of theoretical knowledge are fundamental for oral rehabilitation training in the dental field. However, traditional teaching models have certain limitations, especially in the practical area, associated with teaching demonstrations due to the number of students enrolled, restriction to a single demonstration, among others. As a tool to overcome these limitations, the characteristics of a Virtual Learning Object (VLO) might help to reinforce and complement the knowledge acquired in theoretical classes, thus improving the learning process. Therefore, there is a necessity to develop a Virtual Learning Object for this field and to evaluate the degree of achievement of the learning process objectives. Methods: A descriptive observational cross-sectional study was carried out. The study population was 58 male and female students enrolled in the preclinical course of Oral Rehabilitation II at the National University of Colombia for the 2023-II academic semester. This study consisted of three phases: 1. Design and elaboration of the Virtual Learning Object in Total Prosthetics. 2. Application and use of the OVA as part of the methodology of the Oral Rehabilitation II subject. 3. Data collection and statistical analysis. Results: The "Total Prosthetics OVA" presents a high level of ease of learning, efficiency of use, and retention over time. Its error rate is low, and the levels of subjective satisfaction of the students with the tool are positive in terms of esthetic dimension and demonstrative and theoretical contents. Finally, there is a direct correlation between the fulfillment of course objectives and the use of the OVA. Conclusions: The "Total Prosthetics OVA" has not only successfully met the theoretical-practical objectives of the Oral Rehabilitation II course but has also provided a satisfactory and effective learning experience for the students. The tool has shown to be easy to use, has promoted long-term retention, and has generated a high level of satisfaction among students. These findings support the effectiveness and usefulness of virtual learning objects in the context of dental education and suggest their feasibility for implementation in other related educational programs
