Abstract

Introducción: In higher education, elective courses allow students to broaden and update their knowledge through the incorporation of complementary content and the use of participatory methodologies. In medical sciences, limitations have been identified in the availability of courses that integrate the history of Cuba with digital technologies, highlighting the need for educational strategies that strengthen digital literacy. Objetivo: To design a proposal for an elective course on digital literacy for the study and communication of the history of Cuba in medical sciences. Method: A development study with a qualitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional approach was conducted at Faculty of Medicine No. 2 from January to March 2026. Theoretical and empirical methods were used, including analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, document review, and analysis of the medicine curriculum. Results: An elective course program on digital literacy and the teaching of the history of Cuba was developed, aimed at third- to fifth-year medical students. The course is face-to-face, organized into five topics, with a total duration of 20 hours distributed among lectures, practical classes, and independent work. Conclusions: The proposed elective course represents a relevant alternative for integrating digital literacy into the training of medical sciences students, strengthening key competencies for the management, analysis, and communication of historical information, and contributing to the development of well-rounded professionals.
