Abstract

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) is undeniably disrupting the educational landscape, especially in teaching and learning processes. This incursion raises a significant debate about the impact of applying this new technology in primary and secondary education settings. In this context, the concern arises to analyze the influence and relevance of GAI as a pedagogical strategy and tool within the reading and writing processes of young people, with an emphasis on critical reading. This article reflects on the potential benefits and risks of these tools in learning critical reading, as well as the pedagogical transformations necessary to integrate them meaningfully. From a critical perspective, it is argued that GAI can strengthen students' reading comprehension and metacognitive skills, provided there is conscious and ethical mediation within the teaching and learning process of these new technologies. Finally, the need to rethink the concept of critical reading in the digital age and to guarantee democratic conditions that ensure access to generative artificial intelligence (GAI) for the entire educational community is discussed.
